About Our Style of Iaido
Our dojo is a member of the North American San Shin Kai founded by Mitsuzuka Takeshi Sensei. The North American San Shin Kai is an organization that governs how our dojo teaches the art of Iaido.
Per the North American San Shin Kai, our dojo teaches 7 sets of Kata.
Our dojo's primary set of is the style of Muso Shinden Ryu. This style consists of the following 3 sets:
Shoden (Omori ryu) = 12 count kata set
Chuden (Hasegawa) = 10 count kata set
Okuden (Oku Iai) = 19 count kata set
We also teach 2 Kendo based sets:
Seitei Gata (Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei)
= 12 count kata set
Nihon Kendo Kata (Kumitachi)
= 10 count kata set
As well we teach to 2 uncommon Iaido kata sets:
Keishi Ryu = count 5 kata set
Shindo Munen Ryu = count 12 kata set
Finally, we teach Tameshigiri (The Japanese art of test cutting)
